Votary Rose Geranium and Apricot Oil Cleanser

Hey Beauties!

I know i said that i would do this post last week but things go in the way and i didn’t have time to get it done but its here now…better late than never haha.
2017 for me for the year of skincare i found so many new products it was the year i really go into skincare, finally putting together a proper routine together for myself. If i had to sum up 2017 in one word in terms of skincare it would have to be “Retinol” if im honest before 2017 i didn’t know much about retinoids or what they did i just thought it was something that people with acne used.

I tried to put together 5 products that i used in 2017 but i couldn’t choose so i ended up with 11 products all of them winning a tiny piece of my heart in 2017.

Best of Skincare 2017

First of we have this cult classic by Embryolisse, Lait Creme Concentre – This moisturiser has everything i need its hydrating without being overly thick or rich. Without sounding rude this moisturiser is pretty basic it says it will moisturise your skin and that’s exactly what it does.
Lait Creme can used by all skin types Dry/Dehydrated skin may find it of most use but i feel sometimes its a bit to oily for other skin types.

The Body Shop Skin Defence

I had never really found an SPF that i really liked before as a lot of them were either too thick for everyday use or they just sat on my skin weird that was until i found The Body Shop Skin Defence, this is a SPF 50 PA++++ that feels like a serum its so thin that its hard to believe it protects the skin but it really does. I think i like this so much because it literally feels like nothing on the skin.
Skin Defence is Organic(Chemical) SPF meaning it doesn’t contain any physical blocks so if you have sensitive easily irritated skin this may not be for you as this is absorbed into your skin where as a physical SPF just sits on the skin and therefore theres less chance of irritation.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% was something completely new to me this year. It was actually Laura from Deciem who picked this out for me i didn’t use it for the longest time but when i did i couldn’t put it down! Azelaic Acid brightens the skin tone while visibly improving the evenness of skin texture and reducing the look of blemishes, so this is perfect for post breakouts when you have some redness/scarring this will help to reduce and overtime get rid of the marks. What interested me the most was a lot of acids tend to cause reddening of the skin but Azelaic Acid has been shown to reduce the look of redness and rosacea

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

I have talked a lot about Luna Sleeping Night Oil by Sunday Riley a lot this year, this was my first jump into the world of Retinol and Retinoids and i am not going back haha. I feel like once you start using a retinoid for a long period of time you can start to see the difference it makes to your skin and you won’t ever want to stop.
Luna Sleeping Night Oil is a next generation Retinoid in oil that claims to help fight the signs of aging but help with the appearance of damaged skin as well as improving pore size over time. What i love most about Luna is that that it contains some fantastic ingredients such as Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR) which is a trans-retinol ester of Retinoic Acid. HPR is an ester form, but unlike others HPR doesn’t have to be converted to retinol as it works by binding to retinoid receptors to initiate the same physiological cascade as retinol and with the addition of the carrier oils in Luna they soothe the potential irritability of the Retinoid. I can 100% say that this completely changed how i looked at my skin my skin has never been as smooth as it is now from using retinoids.

Votary Rose Geranium and Apricot Oil Cleanser

If there is one cleanser i have loved using this year above all others it has to be the Votary Rose Geranium and Apricot Cleansing Oil, it seems like 2017 was a year of first because i was always a fan of a milk/gel type cleanser until one of my followers recommended this and again i can get enough! Ive been using this since around September and im just over half way through this bottle so that just shows you much i love a product i will use it to im finished. Using this cleanser is an actual experience it smells like nothing i have used before its so beautiful!

This cleansing oil contains a lot of skin loving ingredients like Rose Geranium – this helps to balance sebum as well as being a great antiseptic so it’s fantastic for oily/combination skin, Apricot kernel oil which again not only helps to balance your skin but helps to it hydrate it as well. It also contains a mixture of Sunflower seed oil, Jojoba seed oil, Grape seed oil, Apricot kernel oil, Chamomile oil – all of which have different properties such as helping to repair skin, mimicking sebum, anti-inflammatory.

Pixi Glow Tonic

Another product that i now can’t live without is the Pixi Glow Tonic which is an Exfoliating Toner now this product is fabulous i use it daily in the PM instead of a physical exfoliator. Glow tonic contains a combination of fantastic ingredients such as Glycolic Acid 5% commonly known as an AHA or Alpha Hydroxy Acid – this power ingredient can help to slough off dead skin cells on the outermost layer of the skin. AHA’s are fantastic for anti-aging because they stimulate the fibroblasts which in turn increases collagen synthesis causing the skin to become plump and youthful looking. Since Glycolic acid is a small molecule it can be quite irritating but with the addition of Aloe Vera this soothes any potential irritation, Horse Chestnut which has soothing, anti-irritant, toning properties, Ginseng Extract is a fantastic ingredient because it not only contains a lot of phytonutrients but because it helps tone and brighten skin over time. There are also studies that show Ginzing being able to stimulate collagen.

Pixi Beauty Double Cleanse

Another fabulous product from the Pixi range is the Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse. This is a the perfect cleanser for when you wear makeup/spf as side 1 contains a solid cleansing oil that is warmed up behind the hands and massaged into the face its a very simple skin friendly first cleanse that dissolves all traces of makeup. The Solid Cleansing Oil contains Evening Primrose Oil which is a plant oil whose fatty acids can have significant skin-soothing and emollient benefits on the skin, Camellia Oil, potent antioxidant which has fantastic skin smoothing properties, Avocado Oil another powerful antioxidant which is a good source of skin-replenishing fatty acids and finally Vitamin E which helps to protect our skin against free radicals and protects against and mop up daily environmental and pollutant gunk, then side 2 contains a cleansing cream, this will help to remove anything that is left over that wasnt hit in the first cleanse but it wont leave the skin feeling stripped or tight as it contains Vitamin C in the form of Ascorbic Acid which can balance and actually increase the production of collagen so you can understand that this is a powerhouse of an ingredient especially when mixed with other antioxidants,Argireline usually called “Botox in a jar” as it stops the repetitive movement of muscles in the face which end up causing wrinkles- it also has has water-binding properties and a theoretical skin-restoring ability,Arginine is an amino acid considered essential to human development again this has antioxidant properties and finally Aloe which is well known for its soothing properties, antioxidant qualities, and serves as a hydrating agent for skin.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Matrix Concentrate

My number 1 eye product of 2017 has to be the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix, i can safely say that this has transformed my under eye areas as you guys may know puffiness/darkness is the bane of my life and the fact im getting older im starting to develop fine lines. When i use this i feel they just disappear to be honest ive been using this for at least 3+ months and i thought i liked my pervious eye creams until i tried this. When using this i just feel like my under eye area is a lot more firm and hydrated than it usually is and the puffiness that plagues me is gone! Even though the product is amazing i have to admit i bloody hate the packaging if it came in a pump that would be amazing but it has this little massaging bulb that is just too small to massage with and the fact you have to double dip makes me wonder about how hygenic it can be.

The Ordinary Niacinamide

It seems like Deciem was a big part of my 2017 i have tried quite a lot of their products this year and have to admit i really enjoyed using a lot of them. The 2 Serum type products that i loved using in  2017 were The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and the NIOD Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex (MMHC)
Niacinamide again was something that was completely new to me this year i had heard of it before never mind used it before, what i really liked about this was it worked great in conjunction with the Azelaic Acid that i used in the mornings. Niacinamide works to help reduce the amount of breakouts and congestion in the skin as well as helping to regulate sebum production. I didn’t use Niacinamide for this function but there are studies out there that it can have brightening properties. MMHC is nothing new to me i have been using some form of Hyaluronic Acid for years now but this was the year i got to try a pretty cosmetically elegant form of HA MMHC contains 15 different forms of Hyaluronic Acid so that different molecular weights can penetrate to different layers of the dermis.

Oribe Balmessence Lip Treatment

The Oribe Balmessence Lip Treatment has to be the most ive ever spent on a lip balm this is definitely a more luxury item. Balmessence contains Natural Lemon Rose Flavor which energises and rejuvenates, Camelina Oil that rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, moisturises, replenishes and protects lips from dryness and damage, Vitamin E which instantly soothes and hydrates dry, dehydrated lips, Shea Butter which deeply moisturises leaving lips soft and supple, Blend of Jojoba & Orange Oil visibly plumps lips making them appear fuller. I use this every night before bed as my lips tend to get really chapped and dry but when using this it doesn’t happen even though it is a favourite of the year im not sure if im going to buy it again because it was pretty expensive (£28)

2017 was a year of new favourites, brand new knowledge and making so many new friends i can only hope that 2018 is just as good!

I love the Oridnary as it’s so good & the price is great. I use buffet, the moisturiser & the caffeine under eye serum.
I have the red peel mask but haven’t used it yet!

I swear I am the only person who don’t get along with Glow Tonic, I find it to be just okay, didn’t do much for my skin. I love Embroylisses though! Yes, it’s a very basic moisturizer but a very good one.

So you’ve totally convinced me to try the ordinary range. The fact it’s listed twice (and that you had all good things to say in person) has set it for me. Pixi is starting to grab my attention too since popping up everywhere, though one step at a time right?

This post was amazing, definitely saving it as a wish list – especially that SPF!! I also love The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc – such a saviour for my skin this year. Have you tried the caffeine solution? It’s so good for dark circles, made a huge difference to mine!
