Debenhams SS15 Press Show

18th March 2015 in Makeup, Skincare, Uncategorised, Upcoming Launches - 6 Comments - 3 min read >/div>

Hey Beauties!

I feel like this year has gone by so quickly we are nearing the end of March already! Last Thursday i had the pleasure of going along to the Debenhams SS15 Press Show and let me tell you this was the best one yet they pulled out all stops for this. The show itself was in the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow, i was really impressed by how it was all set up it looked like a show that you might go to during Fashion Week in London.

I cant wait to try out some of these new launches, as you know im an avid lover of anything skincare, hair and makeup so there were a few things that i really loved like the soon to be launched Murad Blemish Clearing Solution which supposedly heals break outs within 72 hours (Full post here). I also so a massive tub of Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm that was in this really gorgeous sleek silver tub

Makeup launch wise i was rather interested with this pretty cool palette from Two Faced called No Filed Selfie Powders now yes it might seem a bit meh but i really like the idea of it because its something new something i haven’t seen before. The palette contains 3 powders: Sunrise, Totally Toasted and Moon River. As you will be able to tell the first is yellow toned so used to brighten up the face just dont go two heavy handed or you will end up looking jaundice (Hint: not a good look) then the 2nd shade looks to be a bronzer type of product and finally we have moon river which said to be for a “Cool Ethereal Light” ….what ever that means?

To be honest there wasn’t much in terms of new launches for makeup i thought, the palette above and a few other items what did catch my eye is Illamasqua launching what look like a cross between a NARS Multiple and a Clinique Chubby Stick the one that really stood out for me was one that looked completely black until you tried it on and it was a really nice contour colour….insane i know but it didn’t look black when applied it looked like that old green Barry M lipstick looked Green but went on Pink

I also got to see a few people i hadn’t seen in ages and a few that i had never met in person before all in all i was pretty happy. I saw Nicole from www.cocomadeherdoit.com , Genna from www.lipstickcrush.co.uk , Amanda from www.honeypopkisses.com , Laura from www.alifewithfrills.co.uk, and Gillian from lipstickandloathing.com

Last but not least was the fashion show which showed some of the clothes from this seasons launch in Debenhams there were a few items i absolutely loved. First was this gorgeous grey waistcoat lapels by Hammond & Co. by Patrick Grant and on the runway i saw this awesome golden heels but i dont know who they were by.

  • When people ask "what do I use for darkness under the eyes" it's can be a complicated issue because it's not always pigmentation.

When dealing with dark circles under the eyes it can be due to the pigmentation in the skin so you will need to look for tyrosinase inhibitors like kojic acid as well as azelaic acid which can brighten an area over time
Darkness under the eyes can also comes from things like thin skin and lack of fat pads under the eyes, you can essentially see the darkness under the skin through the skin because the orbital area is hollow
Shadows can be casted by either having too much or not enough fat pad.

This can corrected by using products that thicken the epidermis, glycolic acid is fantastic for this has it thickens the skin over time, there are more permanent fixes as well uses a the use of fillers.

Fillers are injected into the undereye area to simulate the presence of fat pads taking away the darkness. .

  • *GIFTED I love the formula of this sunscreen but I'm not too keen on how it's marketed as if somehow it's better than others because it's "clean". The whole "clean" skincare movement is something I dont agree with because it's not based on anything scientific and if I'm honest i feel like it uses people's fears against them in the sense that people have such an unfounded fear of toxic, dangerous ingredients in skincare.

I just really don't like when brands claim their products are clean as if other products are dirty and dangerous which just isn't the case.

This is an inorganic filter (physical) SPF 30 which uses 22% Zinc Oxide which is broad spectrum it's not more effective or cleaner than organic (chemical) filters.

Besides the way it's marketed I really like the actual product, the stuff inside. It goes on really well and spreads easily despite being silicone free. It also layers well under makeup without changing the colour of your makeup.

I haven't tried on deeper skin tones but I doubt this sunscreen will be suitable because of the high zinc oxide content which tends to look really ashy on deeper skin tones.

I just want to say as a last thing don't be afraid of organic (chemical) sunscreens, they aren't dangerous they aren't bad for you and just because something is inorganic (physical) it doesn't mean it's somehow cleaner.
Sunscreens are put through an incredible amount of testing to make sure they are safe, effective and fit for purpose. Don't fall for the fearmongering.

  • Theres an idea floating around that the skin needs to breathe but this is just a myth.

The skin doesn't breathe and you don't need to let it breathe. Your pores have absolutely nothing to do with breathing and covering them won't suffocate your skin.

The idea that ingredients can suffocate the skin is just very old school thing the one most talked about is silicone which contrary to popular belief is actually really good for the skin.

Silicone gives your skin that really nice slip when applying products not to mention it also protects your skin by forming s barrier again the outside world, but thing can still get through as the shape of silicone is like a big hollow circle with branches so it doesn't suffocate your skin.

If you see people saying you need to let your skin breathe you can now tell them the truth!

  • I see this all the time people talking about shrinking their pores by using hot water and closing them with cold water but this simply isn’t possible
There are no muscles connected to the pore so there is no way for them to open and close. The size of pores is largely down to genetics and there is not much you can do to change that.

He only muscle that can be found is the arrector pili which causes goose bumps by pulling the hairs up on your skin but it doesn’t have anything to do with your pores and tightening them.
When you see an enlarged pore it doesn’t mean it’s open it most likely means it’s congested with dead skin cells and hardened sebum however you can fix this by using something like salicylic acid which can penetrate the pore lining and flush everything out making the pore appear smaller.

While there are products out there that can blur and temporarily tighten the skin there is nothing permanent out there that can change the size of pores.

  • If you haven't already heard Kylie Jenner is now dipping into skincare as well as makeup.

All I'll say is it's completely different putting a makeup line together as that's rather easy but trying to put together a skincare line that's actually useful and not a bunch of generic rubbish is harder.

Kylie Jenner has effectively repackaged one of the worst face scrubs known to man, St Ives Apricot Scrub!
This new scrub will contain crushed walnut shells as it's main exfoliant which couldn't be worse for the skin as it has the tendency to cause micro tears in the skin if it's used roughly and can lead to all sorts of problems from letting bacteria into the skin to comprising your hydrolipid barrier.

With all of these new technology in skincare coming from brands like Deciem it feels like this Kylie Jenner product is coming from the late 2000s. To me it just screams lack of thought and can we talk about how generic it is? It's like all she wants to do is make more money instead of actually formulating something actually useful.

What do you think about this new range? .
