5 More Beauty Bits You Need in Your Life

31st October 2016 in Hair, Makeup, Skincare - 3 Comments - 4 min read

Hey Beauties!

If you remember my previous post at the start of the year “Top 5 Beauty Bits You Have To Try” i showed you some of my favourite products that i had been using so i thought it would be good to end of the year in the same way!

£14.50 from mankind.co.uk

Everyone knows or should know that SPF is so important to wear not just when the sun is out but all year round, realistically yeah that doesn’t happen but if you want to protect your skin its best that you find products that contain some sort of SPF.  Jack Black Oil-free Sun Guard is a fantastic choice because it has a high SPF of 45 and is broad spectrum so that means you are protected against UVA and UVB rays. I like that it’s also water-resistant so you will be protected in the water for up to 80 minutes after that you will have to reapply. Yes it is marketed as a “men’s product” but I honestly feel like anyone can use it. If you are worried about the scent being overly masculine I wouldn’t worry as it doesn’t really have much of a scent at all.

Think of Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer as a primer not for your face but for your hair, This product protects, conditions, and eases styling for dry, brittle, or coarse hair. I really love this because it really is that one stop shop kind of product it does everything! I think it really comes in handy because it not only works as a primer but as an SPF for your hair so it doesn’t get damaged either containing both UVA and UVB protection.

A good long last lipstick is a great thing to have because you don’t always want to be touching it out and having to reapply. NYX Liquid Suede in Soft Spoken is a gorgeous nude colour that goes perfectly with the Kiko Milano Creamy Colour Comfort Lipliner in 301 Nude. Both are long wearing and affordable also even though the Liquid Suede are quite matte they aren’t drying which is a big plus for me because i hate drying lip products.

I prefer using a makeup fixing spray as powders can sometimes be a bit to matte and flat, you want something that’s still going to enable you to have that dewy look with the fixing properties of a powder that’s where this beauty comes in from L’oreal comes in. I can’t rate this enough at only £7.99 this is a total steal I feel like the only other setting sprays that actually work are the Skindinavia Setting Sprays and the Urban Decay All Nighter but both are £20+ which is a lot of money for something like a setting spray.
I really love the idea of using a setting spray because no matter how much you apply your makeup won’t change whereas with powder the more you add the more likely you are to become cakey and really who wants to be applying layer after layer of powder?

Im of the thought that you really don’t need to be wearing a really heavy full coverage foundation, i like applying a foundation/tinted moisturiser then going in with a heavier concealer that way you can cover up your problem areas and still have the good parts of your skin shine though.
Urban Decay One and Done is a supposed to be like the name suggests one step and you’re done. One and Done instantly blurs imperfections and evens out your skin tone for beautifully perfected, ultra definition skin. It’s the best of both worlds, a hybrid complexion cream which combines the benefits of a sheer foundation and the coverage of a tinted moisturiser. The best part is how it transforms the look of your skin! Over time, pores appear smaller and skin appears noticeably firmer and more radiant.

How beautiful is the new @urbandecayuk One and Done. Laura used it yesterday and loved it because it was so light and gave good coverage #bbloggers #oneanddone #urbandecay

  • I honestly never though that I would have to talk about this on here.

DON'T USE MAGIC ERASERS TO REMOVE YOUR FAKE TAN!! I saw this "tip" on twitter and researched into a little more and found tweet after tweet from people who had tried this and effectively gave themselves chemical burns!
Household cleaning products are not meant for the skin they often contain harsh ingredients that will strip away and remove things.

I feel like we need to be really careful on who you listen to when on social media. Just because someone says something it doesn't mean it's a good idea and it certainly doesn't mean that you should try something that dangerous!

  • I know it might be tempting to follow a lot of these create your own DIY skincare routine or DIY face masks but in truth it's easier and more effective to just use properly formulated skincare product.

Trying to be all natural by using food as skin care doesn't work it's not effective and its unsafe I used to believe the whole DIY thing that was until I learned more about skincare and realised it was just better to eat the food instead of putting on my face 🤣

A lot of the ingredients that people say you can use on your face aren't actually safe for the face I once saw a DIY face mask recipe that called for cinnamon, nutmeg, honey and lemon to be mixed together and applied to the face. This recipe will literally burn your face off cinnamon and nutmeg are known irritants so is Lemon which contain a high level of ascorbic acid which will irritate the skin if left on for long periods of time not to mention the fact it's photosensitising so can lead to burns if you step out into the sun.

Not to mention you have no idea of the efficacy you literally have no way of knowing if these products will work or if you're essentially just making mud pies like you did as a child 🤣 you have no idea of the possible reactions either that's why it's just safer and more effective to use actual skincare products because at least you have some sort of idea how they are going to work and if you will get reactions .

  • I see this more and more these days! Celebrities and influencers saying "this cured my skin it's amazing" but then don't talk about the fact that they get monthly facials and use acids and retinol on a daily basis. Yeah I totally believe you it's down to that crappy physical scrub you used once 🙄😒 What's worse is when I see celebs/influencers promoting supplementation that isn't even proven to work! Supplementation is literally useless unless you are deficient. No your hair won't grow to super lenghts because you a gummy once a day.

Don't get me started on these "fit teas" that are essentially expensive laxatives .

  • I get asked if oily skin should moisturise a lot and I'm here to tell you it's a resounding YES!

I know the idea of making your skin oily again doesn't sound like fun but hear me out. Stripping your skin won't do you any good our skin needs to contain oil it's essential for skin health.

By taking care of our skin and using a light moisturiser say in a gel form for example will actually help to cut down on the excess oil as your skin won't be trying to protect itself when you strip the oil away.. Its really interesting when you realise a majority of oily skin types are really dehydrated so we need to look for moisturisers that are light in texture and contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin etc. I personally love the @cliniqueuk Hydrating Jelly it's a great serum/moisturiser for oily skin.

Check out the 2nd episode of weekly skincare routine video! i will hopefully be making these every Saturday at 8pm UK time! make sure to keep an eye out.
  • I hate to say it but skincare is not a quick fix you can't use a product 3 times and expect miraculous results.

I see a lot of people using products sporadically and then getting annoyed when they don't see any results even though it's only been about 4 weeks of use.

While hyaluronic acid serums will show results right away you will look plump and hydrated, HA is generally an exception to the rule.

A majority of actives will take time to show results. Take retinol for example you might see a small improvement early on but it can take upto 6 months for you to notice a profound difference.

You need to be consistent in your use just because something doesn't work right away it doesn't mean it's useless, we also have to manage our expectations as well sometimes we hope for too much and are let down by the results.
Skincare can only do so much so it's important to have realistic expectations.

It might not look like much is happening to start with but you need to keep going you need to push past the idea of "this isn't working"
Think to yourself why do you think it's not working? Are you using it often enough? Are you using enough product? What are your expectations? .
