First Thoughts on Glossier - UK Launch!

Welcome Skintellectuals!

So after a few long months of wondering when Glossier will launch in the UK we finally found out and that day is today!!
Glossier is the brainchild of Emily Weiss creator of the blog “In The Gloss”  If you haven’t heard of Glossier, they describe their brand as a – “new way of thinking about (and shopping for) beauty products. Because “beauty” should be fun, easy, imperfect, and personal. Above all, we believe that you give life to products-products don’t breathe life into you.”

Since its inception Glossier was only available to those of you “lucky” people who live in the US (I mean…besides Trump as president your were rather lucky haha) so unless you had friends or family in the US the brand was hard to come by. Glossier has finally launched in the UK and are running an offer if you spend more than £25 you will get free UK delivery.

First Thoughts on Glossier - UK Launch!

My first thoughts on Glossier are if you are into the idea of “no makeup makeup” then this is the brand for you its very simple and basic but not in an insulting way more of a “it does what says on the tin” kind of way.

I feel like a lot of the brand has quite a focus on skincare which i really like as i have always said if you work on your skin and have a good skincare routine then your makeup will always look good and sit better on your skin

First Thoughts on Glossier - UK Launch!

I was fortunate to be able to try some of their products before launch but i didnt want to post pre-launch as i wouldnt have had time to properly test out the products.
I got to try out Milk Jelly Cleanser, Birthday Balm Dotcom, Cloud Paint, Haloscope and Priming Moisturiser

Im really loving using the Priming Moisturiser, i thought this might have been a bit to light or something you could put on just before as a primer hence the name but it actually makes a pretty damn good moisturiser. With a lot of moisturisers yes you do get instant hydration but a lot of the time like all skincare it takes time to see the benefits but with the Priming Moisturiser, i feel like you see the effects instantly giving meaning to the name Priming. Priming Moisturiser visibly plumps skin up to create cushiony bounce and an even texture, which helps minimize the appearance of pores—minus any heavy blurring ingredients. The anti-redness complex soothes and evens skin tone, leaving a clean, dewy, balanced finish. Priming Moisturiser also allows you to layer and build up to the perfect amount of moisture depending on climate, season, or how your skin’s feeling on any given day.

For me this has to be one of the stand out products that i was sent hands down!

First Thoughts on Glossier - UK Launch!

Second product i wanted to talk about has me on the fence whether i like it or not everyone seems to love the Milk Jelly Cleanser but ive used it around 3 times now, ive had my skin under control before using this and now i have broken out so im not sure if it was this or something else. I am really hoping that it wasnt this because i dont want to not like it as it seems to be a god send for some people.

First Thoughts on Glossier - UK Launch!

If there was one product from Glossier that i wanted to use it was Birthday Balm Dotcom because it smells of cake!! haha! thats really the only reason i wanted it because i had never seen anything like it because and you cant tell me that the packaging doesn’t look amazing its holographic!!
Birthday Balm Dotcom was inspired by Milk Bars famous cakes (A bakery in New York) The Balm itself is a universal skin salve that can be used anywhere and is packed with antioxidants and natural emollients to nourish and repair dry, chafed skin. The dense, waxy texture stays in place to seal in moisture wherever it goes. I would say that you should only probably use the Birthday version on your lips as it has a slight shimmer/glitter to it

First Thoughts on Glossier - UK Launch!

To give a little mention to the last 2 products, Cloud Paint is a gel-cream formula is designed to be the most user-friendly cheek color in existence and to be honest i think it is because its almost impossible to apply to much as the more you rub it just disappears! I love a good cream/gel blush as they are so natural and flattering on the skin sometimes a powder can just look flat and blegh! Also if you have dry skin a cream/gel blush is perfect for you!

Last but not least is Haloscope, you know me and how much i love a good highlighter well this is probably the most natural highlighter ive  ever used its more of a soft sheen on the skin rather than a blinding flash on the skin. Haloscope contains a dual-delivery formula: the outer halo is infused with crystal extracts for all-day enlightenment, with a solid oil core of vitamin-rich moisturizers for a hydrated, dewy finish.

You can find Glossier online at glossier.com and you will be able to purchase from the UK starting 9th October 2017

What is your favourite Glossier product?
Will you be buying anything?

  • I honestly never though that I would have to talk about this on here.

DON'T USE MAGIC ERASERS TO REMOVE YOUR FAKE TAN!! I saw this "tip" on twitter and researched into a little more and found tweet after tweet from people who had tried this and effectively gave themselves chemical burns!
Household cleaning products are not meant for the skin they often contain harsh ingredients that will strip away and remove things.

I feel like we need to be really careful on who you listen to when on social media. Just because someone says something it doesn't mean it's a good idea and it certainly doesn't mean that you should try something that dangerous!

  • I know it might be tempting to follow a lot of these create your own DIY skincare routine or DIY face masks but in truth it's easier and more effective to just use properly formulated skincare product.

Trying to be all natural by using food as skin care doesn't work it's not effective and its unsafe I used to believe the whole DIY thing that was until I learned more about skincare and realised it was just better to eat the food instead of putting on my face 🤣

A lot of the ingredients that people say you can use on your face aren't actually safe for the face I once saw a DIY face mask recipe that called for cinnamon, nutmeg, honey and lemon to be mixed together and applied to the face. This recipe will literally burn your face off cinnamon and nutmeg are known irritants so is Lemon which contain a high level of ascorbic acid which will irritate the skin if left on for long periods of time not to mention the fact it's photosensitising so can lead to burns if you step out into the sun.

Not to mention you have no idea of the efficacy you literally have no way of knowing if these products will work or if you're essentially just making mud pies like you did as a child 🤣 you have no idea of the possible reactions either that's why it's just safer and more effective to use actual skincare products because at least you have some sort of idea how they are going to work and if you will get reactions .

  • I see this more and more these days! Celebrities and influencers saying "this cured my skin it's amazing" but then don't talk about the fact that they get monthly facials and use acids and retinol on a daily basis. Yeah I totally believe you it's down to that crappy physical scrub you used once 🙄😒 What's worse is when I see celebs/influencers promoting supplementation that isn't even proven to work! Supplementation is literally useless unless you are deficient. No your hair won't grow to super lenghts because you a gummy once a day.

Don't get me started on these "fit teas" that are essentially expensive laxatives .

  • I get asked if oily skin should moisturise a lot and I'm here to tell you it's a resounding YES!

I know the idea of making your skin oily again doesn't sound like fun but hear me out. Stripping your skin won't do you any good our skin needs to contain oil it's essential for skin health.

By taking care of our skin and using a light moisturiser say in a gel form for example will actually help to cut down on the excess oil as your skin won't be trying to protect itself when you strip the oil away.. Its really interesting when you realise a majority of oily skin types are really dehydrated so we need to look for moisturisers that are light in texture and contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin etc. I personally love the @cliniqueuk Hydrating Jelly it's a great serum/moisturiser for oily skin.

  • (Originally uploaded to Live)

Check out the 2nd episode of weekly skincare routine video! i will hopefully be making these every Saturday at 8pm UK time! make sure to keep an eye out.
  • I hate to say it but skincare is not a quick fix you can't use a product 3 times and expect miraculous results.

I see a lot of people using products sporadically and then getting annoyed when they don't see any results even though it's only been about 4 weeks of use.

While hyaluronic acid serums will show results right away you will look plump and hydrated, HA is generally an exception to the rule.

A majority of actives will take time to show results. Take retinol for example you might see a small improvement early on but it can take upto 6 months for you to notice a profound difference.

You need to be consistent in your use just because something doesn't work right away it doesn't mean it's useless, we also have to manage our expectations as well sometimes we hope for too much and are let down by the results.
Skincare can only do so much so it's important to have realistic expectations.

It might not look like much is happening to start with but you need to keep going you need to push past the idea of "this isn't working"
Think to yourself why do you think it's not working? Are you using it often enough? Are you using enough product? What are your expectations? .
